Director of Student Support Services

Job summary

This is a school-level Director role, responsible for a comprehensive Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS) program to meet the needs of assigned students, including ELS, Learning Support, Counseling, and Special Needs. Works alongside the school leadership team in support of teachers, staff, parents, and students to enhance effectiveness in providing wrap-around care and support to students as part of the MTSS school educational programs. This role involves:

  1. Provides resources and support to teachers to effectively serve students in the school with English Language Services, Tier 2 Learning Support, and Tier 3 Special Needs, as part of a comprehensive MTSS program.
  2. Provides supervision of the MTSS program and gives oversight to ELS Teachers and Learning Support Teachers to give push-in and/or pull-out support for students.
  3. Supports the work of school counseling in giving oversight to the well-being counseling program and implementation of counseling resources as part of the overall MTSS program.
  4. Communicates appropriately and regularly with parents, divisional principals, and teachers about the student’s needs.
  5. Utilizes data-based decision-making in the development and monitoring of Individualized Learning Plans, 504 Plans, and/or English Language Support plans (with input from teachers, parents, and the divisional principal, and other relevant staff) for students who need specific guidance and support throughout the year.
  6. Communicates with other professionals inside and outside LifePlus about effective best practices in student support services, including counseling resources as needed.
  7. Supervises the Student Support Services department.
  8. Carries out other duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.

Qualifications and requirements

  1. Demonstrates high standards of professionalism.
  2. Has a strong understanding of, and passion for, LifePlus’ vision, mission, and strategy.
  3. Has a Bachelor’s degree in education, preferably a Master’s degree in special education or a related field.
  4. Has at least 5 years of experience in education. Preferred at least 3 years in special education, school interventions, or school leadership.
  5. Has a strong understanding of standards-based learning and best practices in the landscape of MTSS and RTI.
  6. Possesses good communication and interpersonal relation skills and is able to work effectively with sensitivity to unique and multicultural perspectives and thoughts.
  7. Can work collaboratively in a team to plan, organize, execute, and evaluate educational programming, including teacher development and curricular development.
  8. Has a strong ability to utilize data in decision-making and in monitoring for student performance and program effectiveness.
  9. Is multi-tasked and able to work under pressure.
